An Interview of John Beaton

Tribute to Alan Sullivan at West Chester Poetry Conference

Here's what I presented to the conference (from an old Eratosphere post)

Tribute to Alan Sullivan, West Chester, June 2012

Thanks, Catherine.

Hello, everyone. It’s good to be back at this conference again. My only problem is that I’m trying to write a poem about my experience here but the weather’s so good that I can’t find a way to work in my pet rhyme: "West Chester" with "sou’wester".

Women of the Ages

Yesterday was International Women's Day. I wrote a poem commemorating the hardships of women and a musician,Laura Cortese, put it to music. Some years ago, she played it at an event called 'Folk Fights Back for Women." Here's a YouTube:

And here are the lyrics:

I'm the lass of Invergarry,
singing by the loch alone
of the lad I was to marry,
of the baby in my belly
he begot but would not own.
